The Central Board of Secondary Education is a national level education board in India for public and private schools, controlled and managed by the Union Government of India. It is the most popular Indian schooling board, with over 21,271 schools in India and 220 schools in 28 foreign countries affiliated with CBSE.
Curriculum: Schools affiliated with CBSE follow the NCERT curriculum.
Examination pattern: CBSE conducts Continuous Comprehensive Assessments (CCE) from classes VI through X, and follows the grading system of evaluation. CBSE conducts the final examinations for class X (All India Secondary School Examination) and class XII (All India Senior School Certificate Examination) every year in March.

Gujarat Secondary and Higher Education Board is responsible for conducting examinations for SSC and HSC. The Gujarat Secondary and Higher Secondary Education Board is in charge of conducting the state-level exams in Gujarat. GSEB Board prepares syllabus, books, and publishes results for GSEB Class 10 and GSEB Class 12 students, every year.
Curriculum: The state board curricula, syllabi and prescribed textbooks are determined by the Gujarat state governments, focusing on the particular state’s language, history and culture within the curriculum.
Examination pattern: Exams are conducted in all classes, and each state board conducts the Secondary School Certificate (SSC) examinations for class X students and the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSC) examinations for class XII students.Besides this, it also conducts GUJCET (Gujarat Common Entrance Test).

The National Institute of Open Schooling is a national education board under the Union Government of India and was established by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in 1989. NIOS aims to facilitate versatile education to all segments of society with a motive to increase literacy and enable flexible education. It has become the largest open schooling system in the world, enrolling over 3.5 lakh students annually.
Curriculum: The NIOS board features:
Examination pattern: The NIOS board conducts OBE exams for primary school students. It administers secondary and senior secondary examinations similar to the CBSE and the CISCE exam patterns. The public examinations are held twice a year in April–May and October–November on dates fixed by the NIOS. However, one is also eligible to appear through the On-Demand Examinations at Level and Senior Secondary level in those subjects only in which candidates have taken admission in NIOS for subject wise learning. Results of the public examinations are announced usually six weeks after the last date of examinations
Unlike other boards, NIOS offers a unique and flexible education system where students are free to pursue different levels of education (secondary, senior secondary). Furthermore, students who aspire to write competitive exams can opt for NIOS board after their class 10 – this will help them prepare more thoroughly.
